I was probably right then. It'll be done by mid-2014, and shown a year later. So .... 2 years time.

Fantastic series and fantastic acting, especially Gillian Anderson.
when does series 2 start? and it will probably move to BBC one.

The best part of that finale had to be the song at the end and the family singing along, each of them having a different interpretation no doubt.

I'll tell me ma, when I get home
the boys won't leave the girls alone,
They pulled my hair and stole my comb
But that's alright till I get home.
    She's handsome, she's pretty,
She's the belle of Belfast City...

Very lack lustre episode, quite disappointed with it.

That's as I thought, so really his comment about the red nail varnish doesn't give his ID away at all.

Jamie Dornan is in the next series. So unless he's playing another character in a new story, it's just Paul in Carry on Killing.

Oh I didn't realise he had been confirmed for the whole next series, just that he was going to be in it. Dash that then! The Fall - Gillian Anderson - starts Monday 13th May BBC2 - Page 69 (6)

Sub plot was rubbish by the way. Was just an after thought, they need to work on that.

I think the sub-plot was included to build on the central themes: violence against women, women being used as sexual products by hetero men (their own sexual pleasure seen as largely irrelevant), men believing they have the right to govern women's sexualities, and age-old misogyny in general.

I thought it should have been 6 episodes long then they could have wrapped it up and had Stella move to a different city with a new killer.

As we've been saying - probably not for another 2 years at least.
Bet you they repeat this series before they show it - for those who have forgotten what happened in the long gap.

I wonder why, instead of actually going to the police station to 'eliminate' himself from the enquiry, he didn't just lie to his wife that he'd been? There would have been a small risk someone else would have recognised him from the CCTV, I suppose, but now they have his handwriting, DNA, dodgy alibis and they know he's been at the police station (because of the nail varnish), not to mention the web of lies to his wife and the family doing a bunk..... The Fall - Gillian Anderson - starts Monday 13th May BBC2 - Page 69 (11)

He went for the reasons outlined by the wife.
The Daughter recognised herself, her friends, their parents, teachers, people at his workplace could have done the same.
Then he'd have been on the backfoot, if the Police came look, they'd take more of an interest if they had to go looking for him.
Going in himself he becomes just another punter, among many that day, well he hopes, he's forgettable.
The Copper who interviewed him was no joke btw, you'd have to be on your guard with him.
Stella was on camera wearing the nail varnish at the press conference, she took it off afterwards, it was done deliberately.

They've only gone off on second honeymoon/holiday/mini break as I read it, they haven't left for good.

DNA, didn't he wear gloves and cover his face for much of the last attack?
I guess there must be some DNA left on the dead brother, spit, if not blood on his hands or clothing from Paul's bruises/cuts.

Yeah but they live in Belfast, why drive out of Belfast 5 miles to turn around and get the ferry from Belfast.

Anyway thought it was funny, nothing more.

He's signed up for Series 2. I doubt it's just for a brief appearance in the first episode or they'd have put an extra episode in this series to finish off his part in it.

Oh that was it, I'm not very bright, but I enjoyed a the subplot ticking away, didn't annoy me.
Hope that comes back next series as well.

Yeah probably. I was just thinking that it would be a good way to keep people hanging,..oh he's coming back for the next series and then in the first episode of the series two he's written out straight away, Finishing his story off this series wouldn't require them to say it was coming back because no one would care as much, We all now expect him to be in the whole thing. If it really is a case of another 6 episodes of how they catch him, I'd be more disappointed. Where's Columbo when you need him. Or even Monk?

You'd think that the detective who interviewed Spector might notice a slight resemblance to the photofit, though.

And documentaries confirm that... however, The Fall wasn't a documentary...

I would have been happy for Spector to go uncaught... providing the guy who was abusing his wife (who Spector arranged to go to a refuge) killed him. That would have bought the two plotlines together nicely while not providing the usual ending where the killer is caught via clever detective work.

I think series 1 part 2 cannot continue with the same sort of killing or depiction of it - that continued quantity of screentime showing violence towards women would qualify as gratuitous.

Yes. Plus it was the same detective who took his phone call so surely he would have recognised his voice immediately. Even Inspector Clouseau would have recognised him. This made the cops look totally stupid.

And what happened to all the marks and scratches on his face? They were all gone the next day. Totally daft.

Potentially great series ruined by a so called cliffhanger ending. Sorry, but they have all the evidence they need on the killer, so the only cliffhanger is whether he makes the ferry or not.

Stupid, contrived ending, and i really don`t need to wait two years to see what happens next.

I am going to go against many here and say that the ending was refreshingly unexpected and gripping and sets itself up for a great starting off point for the second season!

The acting was superb all around, particularly Bronagh Waugh who was just awesome. Jamie Dornan was also brilliant - he does icy/manipulative/detached/menacing with just the right amount of vulnerability and loneliness, perfectly. Gillian Anderson was again flawless and note perfect.

I can't wait to see how it pans out and I think the ending, while not neatly tied off, was appropriate.

Is his voice that hugely distinctive, that out of how many people he talks to in a day he'd recognise him?
I'm guessing you've never taken a phonecall from someone you know and not recognised the voice and have to ask who it is, then.

Next series is definitely set in Belfast and stars both Gillian and Jamie. So I don't think he's going too far (or comes back ) and as Gillian said he will not stop killing.

Well at least it wont do a Waterloo Road and decamp to Scotland!

Finale did feel a bit of a letdown, spent a lot of the episode discussing how the subplot would suddenly link into the main story but I guess that is for series 2.

Perhaps it will in some way eventually lead to Stella's past affair with Cantona (and others maybe?) coming out in public and will discredit her which will give the killer some one-upmanship over her. Who knows.

Only saving grace for me was Gillian. who was wonderful to watch as she always is.

Well, I was wrong as a very wrong thing.

With the sub-plots about police corruption and about Spector pissing off the Belfast thugs, I thought it was going to end with Scully failing to catch him and then the drug-dealers figure out who he was and kill him and then the bent chief constable tells Scully to leave it alone.
And the moral of the story is "Sometimes the straightest path is the one through mud" etc.

I think that would actually have been better than what we did get.

I guess I can forgive them for not wrapping it up completely but we got absolutely f**k all.
Nothing got resolved at all. Complete waste of time really.

One vaguely interesting point: Who was that thumbing through his scrap-book while he was off torching his own car?
Seemed like a womans hands. Baby-sitter? His missus?

Also, I guess S2 of this means Scully isn't going to be the next Doctor either. The Fall - Gillian Anderson - starts Monday 13th May BBC2 - Page 69 (29)
