2020 list - ClickHEREEarth and Blood gets a lot right at first, and it’s a shorter film that goes fairly quickly, but there isn’t enough depth to keep your attention. Saïd owns a sawmill deep in the woods, and one of his apprentices is forced to hide a large amount of cocaine inside the factory. This leads to plenty of gang-related violence, shootouts, and much more action than anticipated. The intense scenes are well-executed, and some of the violence looks fantastic. The Directordelivers a plethora of suspense-filled scenes, and the majority of those result in violent conclusions. It all actually works pretty well for a B-level Action-Thriller. The issue here is the fact that the story itself is…

Schaut Mal vorbei ^^4.5/10

Review by More_Badass ★★½ 2
At 80 minutes, Earth & Blood has all the elements for a lean intense action-thriller. A small simple set-up, a fantastic location to siege, a protagonist with believable presence, a villain with a menacing vibe. But despite all that, Earth & Blood squanders most of its potential.
The movie wants to be a slow-burn, tense everyman thriller, but its characters are all genre cliches while time is spent setting up backstory and relationships that never matter once the action starts. The movie also wants to be a gory action thriller, with a few shocking bursts of brutality that are practically from a different film. The biggest offender is how Earth & Blood barely capitalizes on its sawmill location: a sprawl of industrial equipment,…

"An eye for an eye."
It's unfortunate that Earth and Blood didn't really pan out for me, especially after being impressed by Julien Leclercq's The Crew. It's only 80min long (5 of them being credits), but what it could have really used, was an extra 20min to build up the central relationship between (growing lowkey fave)Sami Bouajila's protagonist and his daughter. It also doesn't help that the film took roughly 25min to actually get started, the exact opposite of The Crew; in result making the action packed - yet rushed - third act fall flat. It closely resembles the final stand sequence of The Equalizer, minus the same dedication to tactical action. There's enough available to make a better film, which makes its lacklustre result all the more disappointing.

Realistic violence and action. Stellar performances and great direction. Exciting and wholly engaging. Another damn good 80 minute thriller from Julien Leclercq. Liked it a lot.

Review by SnobMaynard ★★
Most boring use of a sawmill in a movie ever. They had shitloads of great and brutal weapons at their hands, but they did nothing with them. Also, the sawmill could have looked so creepy and atmospheric, but director and cameraman had no ideas, and again, they did nothing wih it.
Plus: it somehow reminded me a lot of "A Lonely Place To Die", not only in terms in how it doesn't live up to its basic premise (which is neat), but also regarding its title.
"Earth and Blood" is a rather vague title that has not much to do with the movie, but somehow makes it sound way cooler than it is, just like "A Lonely Place To Die".… -

Hervorragender Genre-Beitrag!

If your 80-minute movie feels longer than 2 hours and it’s boring when it’s trying to be suspenseful, that’s how you know it’s that bad. Netflix still loves to waste everyone’s time and money.

Competent but also kinda boring. It’s very barebones and there’s really nothing to get attached to; it happens and then it’s over.

Review by Ben Abraham ★★
While this showed some glimpses of what could have been a solid action film, it ultimately falls flat in a lot of ways. The direction was not a flaw, some scenes were packed with suspense and the violence was great, but everything is so dimly lit, there is a complete lack of colour and that alone was enough to lose my interest completely.
Besides from not being able to see what was happening, there was also a lack of characterisation and the story thins out far too much and leaves many plot points out in the open. The runtime is very short and that was part of why the film thins out too much, but the story in general lacks force and never really managed to take off.
So while the performances were solid and the direction wasn’t bad, the story was still scanty and a complete change in colour-correction was very much needed.
